Nigeria vs Algeria

The super eagles of Nigeria will today November 12 lock horns with the Fennec Foxes of Algeria at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. The build-ups to this game has been massive as both teams have vowed to fight to finish in their respective bid to reach the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The Algerians know for sure that their World Cup hopes will be dashed if Nigeria beat them. The eagles lead CAF qualifying Group B with three points following their 2 – 1 win over Zambia in Ndola on October 9, 2016. The Algeria delegation arrived Nigeria with their own supply of food, water and beddings.

They arrived with a chartered flight on Thursday evening, November 10 at exactly 6.45 pm and were received by top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). The team went on to have their first feel of the match pitch on Friday evening just 24hours to the big clash. Super eagles captain John Mikel Obi has stated that all the players appreciate the importance of this particular game and its ramifications for Nigeria’s march to a sixth FIFA World Cup finals.


“We all know what this match means, why we have to give everything,” he said. “Yes, we started the race well by winning in Zambia, but we have to approach this match even more seriously. The Algerians will come with determination and they will play hard, but we will play harder. “The World Cup is the biggest stage; every player wants to be there. I am happy we have such a young and energetic team. Goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi is expected to be in goal for Nigeria after Carl Ikeme suffered an injury in action for his club. Victor Moses, Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi are expected to lead the eagles’ attack.
